The 2018 Royal WA Historical Society – East Perth Cemeteries Pioneer Memorial Service will celebrate the Carr and Guilfoyle families contribution to the Colony

 

William Carr and his family. Born in Longhill Ballycastle Antrim Ireland. William, wife Mary and son William arrived in 1861 on the Palmerston as an Enrolled Pensioner Guard late of the 89th Regiment of Foot. Mary died, and he then married Sarah Mason, they have a daughter Mary Ann born 1862 Fremantle; after Sarah’s death in April of 1871, William married Widow Anne Cronin in December of that year. William’s daughter Mary Ann married John Guilfoyle August of 1885; After his retirement from the Government Railways he built and ran the Australian Hotel in Murray Street Perth, after he left the hotel and was contracted to build the Beverley to Broome Hill telegraph line, once the contract was completed John returned to manage the Australian Hotel at 196 Murray Street Perth.
