Eastern Goldfields Historical Society Inc.

The Eastern Goldfields Historical Society was established in 1946 for the preservation and promotion of Goldfields history. The Society covers an area from Wiluna in the North to Norseman in the South. Our premises are situated at the Old Boulder Power House, Hamilton St, Boulder. We have at present some 74 members and meet at 7pm on the third Wednesday of the month.

To date the Society has been completely run by volunteers, however following an application to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the Society has received three year funding for the employment of an Executive Officer, enabling the EGHS to open five days a week. At present the Society is open Monday to Friday 9am until 2pm.

Our photographic collection contains over 50,000 images dating from the 1890’s to the present day. In our library and archives, we have an extensive range of publications and a large collection of documents pertaining to the Eastern Goldfields. The Society continues to add items of local Historical significance to its collections.

We have a Photographic and Research Section that handles queries from the public.

The Society holds Social activities for members and friends, including visits to Ghost towns, and places of Historical interest. Presently we have a long term project, the renewing of the Kanowna Heritage Trail. This is a project being undertaken in three stages, with the assistance of successful grant application
